The next phase of the New Labels is here

From today (Thursday 18 March), new energy labels completely replace previous versions on the following products:

• Washing machines

• Washer dryers

• Dishwashers

• Fridge freezers

• Wine coolers

• Televisions and electronic displays

What's changed?

The new labels make the energy efficiency and potential cost savings on a product easier to understand; allowing you to make make better decisions when purchasing.

A simplified scale

Firstly, the scale has been simplified and much more accurately reflects the wider range of efficient products on the market today. You will see less and less A and B ratings, and no ‘+’ ratings whatsoever.

It doesn't mean products are any less efficient than they used to be, but it does more accurately reflect the generally more environmentally friendly aspects of products today. It also creates room at the top of the scale for manufacturers to continue to develop greener products.

Clearer info at a glance

Each label also features more in depth information in the form of icons, such as the water usage of washing machines or the energy efficiency in HDR-mode for TVs. This allows you to compare products more easily and ultimately save energy down the line.

Finally, the label is linked to further online information from the manufacturer, which you can access by simply scanning a QR-code with your smartphone.
